Academy Program

With multiple variations to suit multi-sport athletes, our year-round Academy program is the key to honing skills and strengths, while preparing athletes to move up to the High Performance program.

Program requirements

The Academy paddling program is an invitation-only year-round program for athletes focused on paddling as a high level sport. Athletes have a goal of winning local regattas and growing into bigger competitions such as National Team Trials, Nationals and World Juniors. An 80% attendance rate is required.

Paddling Outcomes

Develop more specific paddling techniques, on-water practice management, crew boat development, stroke per distance, race results aligning with long term development plan.

Fitness Outcomes

Some specific resistance training, heart rate and fatigue management, cardio base, flexibility, power development.

Coordination Outcomes

Specific movements for canoe kayak are learned, as well as focusing and refining the big movements.

Our club is designed to develop athletes from all ages, however our space is limited. Please contact us if you are interested in joining the Academy program.

RETURNING ACADEMY ATHLETE REGISTRATION

Academy registration takes place annually at the end of August, for the upcoming training year (September – August). The cost for the Academy 2021/22 season is $1840.00, and those who are invited to the program will be emailed payment details. 

cancellation policy

Academy program participants may withdraw from the program at any time by notifying the Club Manager (info@maskwa.ca). Refunds up to the date of the email will be pro-rated. All refunds will be subject to a $50.00 administration fee and will forfeit the upfront program deposit. No refund will be issued if a participant is required to leave as the result of a conduct concern.
