Founded in 1974, Maskwa has been the centre of Halifax’s paddling community for 47 years, and has developed junior and elite-level paddlers, including 2012 Olympic bronze medalist, World Champion, and world record holder Mark de Jonge.
Maskwa is proud to be back to back National Champions for both 2016 and 2017 - an incredible accomplishment for the club! Year after year, Maskwa is highly successful at getting athletes to the podium both locally, provincially, and beyond.
Maskwa is proud of its state-of-the-art clubhouse and boathouse located on a beautiful wooded property at the end of Saskatoon Drive, overlooking Kearney Lake. The only recreation facility of its kind in Halifax, Maskwa is truly your destination for sporting excellence and family fun on the water. Come check us out today!
Mark de Jonge’s first goal in sprint kayak was simply to stay upright- a feeling that all our new paddlers experience! Nearly two decades later, Mark is one of the best sprint paddlers in the entire world, winning two World Championships, a bronze medal in his Olympic debut in London 2012, and many more international medals. Mark calls Maskwa Aquatic Club his home, and can often be seen around the club, making time for even the youngest of paddlers. We are proud of you, Mark!
